The impact of PZU Group's activities on communities
PZU Group collaborates with corporates and selfemployed individuals conducting business activities as part of sponsorship initiatives and preventive projects. The target of these actions is the general community. It includes individual community members, groups and broader local communities that may be affected by random events such as natural disasters, traffic accidents, or other unforeseen occurrences. PZU Group undertakes preventive measures towards them, conducting preventive activities, educational programs, assistance efforts and sponsorship projects.
PZU Group did not identify material impacts in the higher-tier and lower-tier value chain due to their indirect and distant nature. However, significant positive impacts were identified within its own operations, particularly in social initiatives for safety improvement, sports promotion and sponsorship and cultural patronage programs.
Thus, as part of its double materiality assessment, PZU Group recognized a material impact of its own operations on economic, social and cultural rights of communities.
Positive impacts on communities
PZU Group’s activities positively influenced affected communities through a broad range of initiatives. Key engagement areas include:
aimed at minimizing the risk of insurance events or their impacts, including measures for disease prevention, healthcare and safety in everyday life and at work.
including educational, cultural and sports projects, collaboration with NGOs and local institutions that implement programs tailored to community needs.
and encouragement of regular physical activity, raising awareness of various factors on children, youth and families’ health.
in particular protection of national heritage, funding cultural events and engagement in projects promoting accessibility of cultural activities to a wider audience. Activities, resulting from the provisions of the strategy, contribute to building national identity, respect for tradition, a sense of belonging to the community and its history.
PZU Foundation carried out projects directed at people in challenging life circumstances, funding treatment, rehabilitation and the purchase of medical equipment. Support was also extended to people with disabilities and children and young people through educational programs. Alior Group has joined the campaign to support flood victims organized by the PZU Foundation. Pekao Group conducts charitable activities within the framework of its own Bank Pekao SA Foundation.
PZU Group’s initiatives are directed to all residents in the countries where PZU Group operates.
The premise of preventive activities is to reduce claims, which translate into the PZU Group’s operations and business model. Complementing the main business directions are assistance activities and education. These activities are aimed at the general public and are part of the PZU Group’s strategy.
Assessment of impact on communities particularly vulnerable to risks
PZU Group conducted an impact assessment on communities with specific vulnerabilities. The assessment included international human rights declarations and NGO reports. The evaluation included documents and reports from reputable international organizations such as: Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), United Nations (UN), Minimum Community Engagement Standards and Indicators, UNICEF, UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), The Indigenous World 2022 Report, Global social impact measurement and management standard, OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
Assessment findings showed that no significant negative impacts of PZU Group on vulnerable communities were identified which is based on the nature of PZU’s business operations and its primary geographical scope, including Poland, Baltic countries and regions not classified as high-risk for vulnerable communities. A special case is Ukraine, where military actions are taking place. Due to the geopolitical situation Ukrainian subsidiaries were excluded from sustainability reporting. No evidence found that communities within PZU Group’s operational scope suffered harm due to PZU’s activities.
PZU Group entities monitored their impact on communities and found no negative impacts. At the same time, there were no human rights violations against either Group employees or community representatives.
